Harness the energy of the sun and save or earn money!
How the (PV) Photovoltiac system works: When the sun hits the PV panels, it causes the silicon cells to create a small voltage of electricity. Many cells are connected together to combine this power to a higher voltage and then it goes to an invertor to be changed from DC to AC power. The invertor keeps the voltage constant and feeds the power into your electrical panel or into the grid itself, depending on the type of installation. A PV system can be totally off grid for self-sufficient power generation, connected directly to the grid, or a combination of both, using batteries for back up power.
Government Incentives:
In order to help you get your solar PV system, and get a return on investment, the Ontario government has implemented the FIT program that is a 20-year contract that allows you to sell your hydro back to the grid for 80.2 cents.
The solar panels can be mounted on your roof or on a pole. System sizes range from 1 to 10 kw and from $12 000 to $100 000.
